Teaching the Eucharist

Eucharistic communion and hands Priest

What’s known as an “Instructed Eucharist” will be featured at worship services (8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.) Sunday, July 2. While leading Holy Communion service, the Rev. Allan Sandlin will explain the components and background of this holy liturgy. “There’s always something to learn, and it’s a great day to invite a friend to church,” Sandlin says. The Rev. Austin McGehee will celebrate the Eucharist.

God Goes to the Movies

The “God Goes to the Movies” summer series continues at 9:30 a.m. Sundays in the Parish Hall Meeting Room. On July 2, Barry Bynum and Ken Cribbs will present the film Departures, showing some clips and leading discussion during the 45-minute session.  In this Japanese film (2008), a newly unemployed cellist takes a job preparing the dead for funerals. It is streaming on some networks.

The Word in Words Book Group

The Word in Words book group at St. Bartholomew’s is reading “The Boys in the Boat” this month and will meet to discuss it at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, in the Brooks Room. The nonfiction work is about the 1936 Olympics in Germany and the U.S. rowing team.
